The Hidden Treasures Of The Tuscany Region
While the cities in Italy are full of fun and vibrancy there are parts of this beautiful country that whilst they do not have the hustle and bustle of the city life they are still well worth a visit and are extremely memorable in their own right. Italy is full of rural villages and towns that have the most breathtakingly beautiful scenes you could ever imagine. One of the most beautiful and perhaps the best known regions is Tuscany, even just hearing the name can give you imagines of drastically charming villas and vineyards.
In Tuscany you can always find something to please everyone of every age, whether it is young children or senior citizens you cannot go wrong in this region. The amount of small hillside towns is unbelievable and if you are hiring a car then you can be sure of finding some of the most unspoilt towns and villages ever seen. You will feel like you have stepped back in time with some of the villages looking as if they have literally stepped out of a history book.
Of course with Tuscany you have the hidden benefit of choosing between rolling green hills and countryside to fabulously sandy beaches all of which will please and delight even the well-travelled tourist. As Italy is famed for its fabulous wine then a visit to some vineyards should definitely be on the agenda, there are some that you can see through booking with a tour guide and unless you know the area well, it may be worth you looking at this option as at least you will be guaranteed a tour and not just end up looking through the gates. If you want to sample these fine wines then ask when booking if there is a wine tasting facility at the vineyard you are looking at because not all of them offer this service.

Lunigiana in the Northwest is a lovely place to stay and visit especially if you like a little bit of the unspoilt Italy. Surrounded by high mountains and with views of the sea, the hills and valleys with their cascading waterfalls, bubbling brooks and trickling streams make for impressive hiking with some lovely ruins of fortresses to take in along the way. You can always find some perfect mountain cottages to stay in or coastal villas to rent and when shopping in the street markets for the local produce you really will experience and feel the local customs and way of life.
Whether it is lakes and mountain streams, or sandy beaches and coves that you prefer, this region really is a place to explore and by hiring a car you can make sure that you see as much of this hidden treasure of a region as you can. You will still find over 100 castles in this region and also the Lunigiana Museum of Natural History which can be found in the Brunella fortress that actually dates back until the 1500's and is well worth a visit.
